How to Make Money on Online Auction Sites

As a retail site owner specializing in discount and bulk items
for auctioneers, flea marketers and bulk buyers, I've known many
people who've been able to make a living simply by buying and
selling items on auction sites. It's the perfect business. You
can do it from home, you don't have a boss, you can make a
substantial living, and it requires no special skills that any
average Joe can't learn.

The key to making money on auction sites is to follow a
few simple guidelines:

1. Know What to Sell - Start by cleaning out your attic or
garage. Get some experience selling things from around your house
before buying goods wholesale to sell on an auction site. Sell a
few used goods: small appliances, wedding gifts you don't want,
old books, sporting goods, etc... This way you don't risk any of
your capital.

Try selling things you know something about. That gives you the
edge over your competitors who are just selling an item because
they happened to get a good deal on it wholesale. Many of my
customers specialize in tools so they are able to use their
expertise to convince buyers.

2. Purchasing Items to Sell - One of the best ways to make a
profit on auction sites is to purchase items in bulk, for
wholesale if possible, and then break them up and resell them
individually. One seller purchased power tools in bulk from my
site, then resold them on eBay for more than a fifty percent
markup.

3. Timing and Placement - You have to use some common sense when
listing items on an auction site. For instance, a seller offering
down comforters won't make nearly as much if he chooses to sell
them during the peak of summer. Some items will sell no matter
what time of year it is, but some take a little consideration of
when and where to list them.
